Founder/Director CBFe, Crested Butte, Colorado
CBFe is a community collaborative iron pour involving multiple education, outreach, and professional development programs established in 2013.
My work explores the information age by reflecting on the strains of the spaces between man and his environment. As an artist living in the west for the majority of my adult life my work has been principally in industrial materials and technology on the subject of the natural environment I am immersed within. The clash of the natural represented within the inherently processed and human material creates an ironic tension in the work. Our relationships with each other, and with the environment surrounding us, have been translated through one form or another of technology since the dawn of the industrial age. The resulting translations are a distortion of the original whose aesthetic carries the fingerprints of all the veils along the way.
CEO/President SMART Department Fabrication INC, Brooklyn, New York
Owner, Designer, Fabricator of a custom fabrication shop in Brooklyn, NY established in 2014. I manage, build and install custom furniture, sculptures, commercial and residential spaces, decorative metal works and custom props. My relationship with art exists in a contentious state. I no longer make things for my artistic self but rather for paying clients with attitudes, directions, and personal styles that generally lack inspiration. What I do make for myself I make from the constant detritus of my shop. I repurpose the prototypes, make walls out of off cuts and tools out of leftover materials all paid for by clients. My work tends to highlight the beauty in mistakes and the importance of hard work in a world that increasingly loses physical touch with reality.
